Today while doing some routine ground work I came across two unauthorized visitors. Two full blooded cute Dotson/Dachshunds. Tini cute little things. One male and One female. The female has either just had pups or is about too. They where loaded with fleas and ticks so I stuck them in trailer #3 till I could get them bathed. Asked around and no one had a clue where they came from. I contacted the Sheriffs office, Uvalde police, the radio station, the newspaper and the useless Uvalde animal control to alert them I had them. I knew someone had to be looking for these two. Well the female had a rabies tag from 2009. I took it off her when I bathed her with dawn dish soap. The male I gave a bath to also. He showed he was displeased with that idea but was not aggressive. I made sure they where flea free and them put them in our kennel area. Mini welcomed them both and mothered the mother dog. Sandy and Duchess just greeted and walked away. Both of them with Mini followed be back and forth everywhere I went. Mini helped the female up on her blanket area in the closet and guarded her well. the male just kept checking on his woman and then would come over and lay at my feet.
Well after a few hours I got a call from the county telling me the owners info. I was amazed they kept the tag info from back in 2009. I called and left a message for the owner. Just after dinner the owner called happy to know her pups where safe. She came and picked them up. It was obvious they where the owner cause soon as the van pulled in the driveway both pups got all excited. Mini was sad to see them go and pouted a bit but I'm sure if they escape again they will come back. With this issue we have with people abandoning their animals here and a few morons that get vicious big dogs and just let them roam other neighbors yards and the street it was nice to know we saved and returned two cute little ones back to their owners.
I have since being here buried eleven of fifteen dogs I have seen hit by cars cause they have owners that did not keep them safe. Like children I think you should have to have a license to have a pet. To many stupid careless people out there have youth and/or pets.
